Whether you would like to buy fresh organic produce from one of our local markets or grow your own vegetables and fruit in your garden or on your balcony, there are many local growers, initiatives and groups to make it as simple and easy and as much fun as it can be in the dry tropics. Our group facilitates education, discussion and passion for the foodies of Townsville and beyond. We encourage the growing, buying and enjoyment of local, seasonal and ethical food. Food for Thought Townsville is a grass-roots community group that welcomes anyone with a passion for food.

We are a non-for-profit community group in Townsville, who:
_Feel deeply about local and global sustainability and environmental rehabilitation. We come together to re-instill community values in local food production, sharing abundance and caring for the Earth from whence it came.
_Hold monthly gatherings on the first Sunday of every month(at various members' homes/gardens); which always includes a lavish lunch from our favourite recipes, sharing fresh produce, plants and preserves; as well as books, seeds, recipes and handy gardening hints.

This great local initiative rescues and (pre-)serves food that would otherwise go to waste.
They prevent perfectly edible fruit and veggies to end up as landfill and help to redistribute surplus food to those in need in Townsville's community.
